The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will provide the opportunity for any currently unlicensed adult (16 years of age or older) to experience recreational hunting in the Sportsman's Paradise during Discover Louisiana Hunting weekend on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving day.

LDWF invites you to enjoy the outdoors through hunting, to learn gun and hunter safety, and to foster an appreciation for the conservation and habitat management mission served by the Department.

Louisiana residents and non-residents are eligible. You can be a first-time hunter or someone simply wishing to try the sport again.

This special promotional weekend is a once-in-a-lifetime offer from LDWF, acting with approval of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. Once you have taken advantage of a Discover Louisiana Hunting (DLH) weekend, you must obtain the appropriate licenses and permits for any future hunting trips.

Anyone currently under a suspension or revocation of hunting privileges is not eligible.

Game species which can be hunted during DLH weekend include resident game birds (quail) and resident game quadrupeds (deer, rabbit and squirrel). For daily bag and possession limits, as well as zone restrictions for deer hunting, refer to the 2006-08 Louisiana Hunting Season and WMA Regulations Booklet or click on Regulations (above).
